Children and Worldviews: Interjeet's story
The Children and Worldviews Project explores qualitative, narrative methods to investigate the worldviews of children, that is, the way in which they make sense of their experiences and matters which are of particular importance to them.
Interjeet's story
I'm 11, I got only 4 sisters. I'm the eldest in my family, I have to look after everyone and I have to clean the house and stuff by myself because my other sister is quite naughty and when I say to her 'do the hoovering' she won't listen to me and then I have to do it myself. If you're the eldest you get treated good really because if my dad sees my sister being naughty he doesn't let them be naughty. My dad wants my sisters to listen to me, whatever I say.
We speak English sometimes at home, but my granddad says to me 'speak in Punjabi in the house'. It's important to speak Punjabi cos its our mother tongue. I care about the adults, I care about like, old people and all that, cos they're quite old and their bones go and sometimes they need care and help, like my granddad.
When I'm older I'd like to be a solicitor, my dad wants me to be a solicitor, he goes 'at the school all your teachers give you a good report and that and I want you to be something' and he goes, 'what do you want to be?' At first I thought I'd be a doctor right, and then I goes, 'no, you have to do all the operations and cut all the tummies up' and then I thought I might be a soliticor. I don't want to get married because you have to leave your mum and dad and you have to go to another house and you have to try and get mixed up with them, like its completely starting a new life. I don't know if I could be a solicitor as well, I wish I could though.

How old are your four sisters? I'm Dionne and I'm 6 years old. Have you got a pet? I haven't got one but I would like to have a dog because they guard. Then strangers wouldn't steal stuff. It hasn't happened to me but its something I think about. A dog is also good for playing with and exercising, running with. I've got a younger sister, she's three years old. She's naughty too. My sister makes me annoyed - everytime I have a teddy she comes and nicks it.
